Smart Host Tips

key exchange nycWe love our community of hosts. With the recent rash of reported thefts in LA and here in NYC, um, more “x-rated” violations of trust, we want to help you be extra-careful with your hosting. We’ve pretty much seen it all. Here are a few all-too-common mistakes we’ve seen as well as tips to prevent theft, destruction, or, uh, your apartment becoming a dirty movie’s film set.

We’re Opening A New Storefront!

city copilot times square

HUGE NEWS: City CoPilot is expanding to Times Square! Above is a sneak peek of the new storefront located inside the Gray Line Visitor Center at 777 8th Avenue (in between 47th and 48th Streets) opening August 8th.

We can’t wait to serve Hell’s Kitchen and Midtown Manhattan the same trusted front desk services as our Lower East Side storefront: luggage storage, key exchange, cleans, airport transportation, and…

The new storefront is literally INSIDE the best sightseeing and Broadway ticket purchasing spot in the city, so NYC tourists who use City CoPilot Times Square can take care of everything they need for their trip in our convenient new location. We’re pretty psyched about it.

Stay tuned — we’re only going to keep growing!

Know Your CoPilots, Vol. 3: Meet Tristan

Tristan CCP

This is a series on the blog called “Know Your CoPilots” where we show off our knowledgable, friendly, adorable team members. Get to know the third team member featured in our series, Tristan! (And say hi to him when you stop by 166 Allen Street.)

What he loves about City CoPilot:
Seeing the convenience it brings to the neighborhood!

He’s basically a human TripAdvisor:
I’ve lived in Hong Kong, Germany, Austria, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, the US… and I think there might be more.

Favorite spots in New York City, currently:
I go to Pianos on Stanton and Orchard a lot. It’s like three bars in one: they have a back room with EDM, a space for bands, and a bar of course.

Pro tip for someone visiting NYC for the first time:
There’s free comedy on Monday nights at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Chelsea. You have to wait in line, but famous comedians test out material all the time. A friend of mine just saw Amy Schumer perform there.

Know Your CoPilots, Vol. 2: Meet Hector!

Meet Hector

This is a series on the blog called “Know Your CoPilots” where we show off our knowledgable, friendly, adorable team members. Get to know the second team member featured in our series, Hector Rojas! (And say hi to him when you stop by 166 Allen Street.)

What he loves about City CoPilot:
I love when key exchange guests are impressed with our service. Once I hand them their keys, they always say “That’s it? Awesome!” I guess because we are a new concept they expect it to be very complicated.

¿Le gusta el fútbol?
I’m a soccer-obsessed international college student from Mexico.

Favorite spots in New York City, currently:
Union Square and Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Pro tip for someone visiting NYC for the first time:
Go to the Empire State Building Observatory after 11:00 pm and walk around like you own it. It’s open until 2:00 am every day of the year but most people have no idea.

City CoPilot Sonja

Know Your CoPilots, Vol. 1: Meet Sonja!

City CoPilot Sonja

We’re launching a series on the blog called “Know Your CoPilots” where we show off our knowledgable, friendly, adorable team members. There’s no better person to kick off the series than the lady you see above: Mrs. Sonja Hunter, a CoPilot from the early aughts. Follow her on Twitter at @sokosf, Instagram at @sokohunt, and her blog, The Adventures of Mr. & Mrs., for travel fun, perfect bangs, and more. Say hi to her if you’re near the 166 Allen St. store!

What she loves about City CoPilot:
I love hearing people’s stories about why’re visiting NYC and where they’re from.

She’s literally the Carmen Sandiego of New York (minus crime and fedora):
My husband and I have lived in seven neighborhoods throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Favorite coffee shop in NYC, currently:
Lula Bean in East Williamsburg.

Pro tip for someone visiting NYC for the first time:
If you’re here for three days or more, definitely get the 7-day MetroCard.
