Smart Host Tips

key exchange nycWe love our community of hosts. With the recent rash of reported thefts in LA and here in NYC, um, more “x-rated” violations of trust, we want to help you be extra-careful with your hosting. We’ve pretty much seen it all. Here are a few all-too-common mistakes we’ve seen as well as tips to prevent theft, destruction, or, uh, your apartment becoming a dirty movie’s film set.

We’re Opening A New Storefront!

city copilot times square

HUGE NEWS: City CoPilot is expanding to Times Square! Above is a sneak peek of the new storefront located inside the Gray Line Visitor Center at 777 8th Avenue (in between 47th and 48th Streets) opening August 8th.

We can’t wait to serve Hell’s Kitchen and Midtown Manhattan the same trusted front desk services as our Lower East Side storefront: luggage storage, key exchange, cleans, airport transportation, and…

The new storefront is literally INSIDE the best sightseeing and Broadway ticket purchasing spot in the city, so NYC tourists who use City CoPilot Times Square can take care of everything they need for their trip in our convenient new location. We’re pretty psyched about it.

Stay tuned — we’re only going to keep growing!

We Can Book Your Bus Tour of NYC

We’ll skip our usual wall of Oprah GIFs to simply tell you that City CoPilot can arrange a bus tour of NYC for you or your guest. For example: we can get you tickets for the famous Gray Line double decker bus tour, just to name one line in our arsenal of tourist hookups. How’s that for your neighborhood concierge?

And FYI for the real ballers out there: Gray Line also does helicopter tours of NYC.

A Love Letter To Our Wall

We don’t want to name names, but have you seen the daily luggage storage or luggage locker facilities in New York City?

baggage-claim

Not City Copilot.

We offer daily luggage storage because we knew we could do it better than the competition. (That and there just aren’t enough short-term luggage storage spots below 34th Street.) How do we do that? Two words:

pink-floyd-the-wall-1979

That’s right: we have a wall to protect your precious cargo, and a lot of the competition, well, stores luggage on some shelves in full sight of street traffic, or worse, splayed out on the floor within grabbing distance. Meet… The Wall:

City Copilot NYC Travel Hack: The J Train to JFK

hqdefault-2

Do not be afraid.

Picture it: Sicily, 1922 City Copilot’s storefront, last month.

sophia-petrillo2

We’re chatting with an adorable family from Italy who are safely and securely storing their luggage with us before their evening flight back to Rome from JFK. They tell us they’ve been staying in midtown.

edit-9162-1424294250-13

“Go on,” we say.

Currently, most of City Copilot’s luggage dropoffs are from folks who are staying downtown, not above 42nd Street. “Why did you choose to store your luggage down on the Lower East Side?”

“We planned it so that on the last day, we’d store our luggage with you, then visit the 9/11 Memorial and the Tenement Museum, eat at Russ & Daughters, then grab our bags from you and just hop on J train to JFK.”

tumblr_n2hzcbgdHo1su7sauo1_500

So to anyone planning to stay in Midtown Manhattan or above 14th Street: the J train can be your New York City airport travel copilot. City Copilot (located at 166 Allen Street) is literally STEPS from the Bowery stop. You needn’t miss out the Lower East Side, East Village, Chinatown or Little Italy.

Drop off your bags with us, hit up these great neighborhoods, pick up your bags in our air conditioned storefront, get on the J, and boom: you’re at JFK.

And this also serves as a reminder to New Yorkers: don’t fear it. The J is the Abbi to JFK’s Ilana. It’s a beautiful relationship.

Getting To JFK, LGA & Newark: 5 Struggles We Can Solve For You

You touch down in New York City. You’re pumped. There are four ways you can get to your destination:

  1. Stand in line for a taxi and pay a flat rate.
  2. Schlep your luggage in our city’s decent public transportation, then drag your suitcase from the subway or bus stop, hogging up the sidewalk.
  3. Sit stuffed between some swell folks eating tuna salad on a shuttle.
  4. A man in a Member’s Only jacket walks by you at the luggage carousel and whispers, “Sir, miss, you need a ride?”

You want to have an amazing time in the Big Apple. You may have to buy another suitcase to fit all the new stuff you bought. Then, it’s almost time to head back to LaGuardia, JFK or Newark. You don’t have Uber. You can’t afford Uber. Maybe you don’t even have an iPhone! That’s when s**t gets real.

The Best Day Ever in NYC? Yes – We Have IT!

les2

Traveler Tip!

Whether it is your first or last day in New York City spend it on the Lower East Side.

Maybe you arrived early for your check-in or have a late flight out – the LES is the spot to enjoy your first or last day in NYC.

Why? Because it awesome….a short list:

  • Art – like art? You should! See some culture without having to go above 14th street – from ever evolving temporary street art (@Banksyny / @BradleyTheodore) to the revolving door of fantastic exhibits @wallplay and the @newmuseum you will not be disappointed by beautiful/intriguing work. We loved the most recent.

BradleyTheo

  • Luggage – Do you have Lots of luggage? No worries! Store it at City CoPilot located in the heart of the Lower East Side  – our customer’s say the nicest things… Safe and secure.
  • History – You are in New York – see something old that is really cool! The tenement museum offers 3 types of tours – see the building and how people lived, meet the residents (legit actors playing roles), or walk the neighborhood like people in the past did. Honestly you should do something cultur
  • Coffee – Have some time to kill and need to do some work – Why Not? Coffee is perfect for a caffeine fix and space to work – chill music, high ceilings, local artists and solid coffee and tea selection – also wine after…or before a long day…
  • Easy Access – by car or subway. The Williamsburg Bridge is the gateway to the LES. A taxi from or to JFK and La Guardia are super convenient. Prefer the subway? Take the J TRAIN ALL THE WAY! The Essex/Delancey stop is just a 4 minute walk from luggage storage at City CoPilot.
